Imagine IC 'Rutu Na Krakti' angisa

‘Awinsi fa den wiwiri fu mi komopo na abrawatra, mi rutu e tyari mi go na tap’sei’.

Imagine IC and Modemuze joined forces last year – together they investigated the (in)tangible heritage of the koto in the Dutch context.

At the request, Cheyenne Nelson (Studio NENE) made a canvas: a collection of knowledge transfer, but can also be worn as an angisa. In the blog posted on Modemuze, Cheyenne takes you on the journey to this end product .

Various experts came together several times in 2020; both physically and virtually. Rita Maasdamme's collection was discussed , how you could achieve a transfer , and several koto from museum collections of Modemuze partners were examined. Together with Imagine IC, Modemuze created a collection page where all this knowledge is bundled .

Research into the elements

It was supposed to be a final event in which we would have a physical brainstorming session. Participants were invited to think about how we could incorporate different layers of the koto , literally and figuratively, into a canvas. The pandemic did not allow this, and a questionnaire asked questions about what types of images they see with a koto, kotomisi and angisa. But above all: what story this canvas should tell to conclude this project.

As in the research project, the aim is to document and translate the meaning of the participants, but now onto a canvas. It is about the (im)material links that are made from the knowledge community. Three points emerged strongly from this; the story of the kotomisi, the strength and elegance of the kotomisi, but also elements from nature.

In 2023 the 'Rutu Na Krakti' angisa was also part of the exhibition called Continue this Thread, held in the Amsterdam x Museum.
